Can you reduce the risks of buying a used phone online?
Yes, by checking the actual phone, its account access and network restrictions before confirming a purchase. A profile, box, registration screenshot or working home screen cannot establish all of those facts. Ask the seller for evidence that answers the job you need the phone to do.
How do you match the phone to the listing?
- Ask for a demonstration of the exact model and storage in Settings, recent photographs and a written repair history.
- Display every IMEI on the device and verify it using the official PTA checking steps. A result belongs to that IMEI, not to a model name or a different handset.
- Check carrier lock separately using the JV and unlocked-phone guide.
- Have the seller remove their account and demonstrate that setup can be completed. Being able to open the camera is insufficient.
What should you test on arrival?
Check calls, SMS and mobile data with your intended network, then Wi-Fi, charging, speakers, microphone, cameras, touch and buttons. Compare the operating system and security-update status with the apps you need. Ask about replacement parts and compare battery behavior with your expected workload. A battery percentage alone does not certify condition.
What should you do if something does not match?
